Art 340. Beginning Ceramics

Students develop the skills to construct with clay and the ability to discuss and evaluate ceramic art. Techniques acquired include throwing, hand building, surfacing, and firing. Students learn to assess ceramic art through reading assignments and historical and contemporary study. These capabilities form the basis of an in-depth study of ceramics.

“I loved being able to make pottery I could use at home out of clay! Even though Beginning Ceramics was one of the most challenging classes I have ever taken, I always looked forward to going to class, and it turned out to be one of my most favorite classes at the University of Mississippi.”

“I love the hands-on aspect of clay. I love being able to start from scratch and make something I’m proud of.”
