Dason Pettit

Equally inspired by cinema, literature, and philosophy, Dason Pettit’s photographic work often explores notions of stability and memory within both the narrative and documentary framework. Disintegration, distortion and reconstitution/alteration are key themes within his work and they reveal multiple perspectives regarding relationships and and how humanity negotiates what it constructs. Metaphors function as ways to provide context that not only deepen the relationship of the images to each other but also open up other possible interpretations from viewers.
Mr. Pettit was born and raised in the Mississippi Delta and received his B.F. A. from the University of Mississippi. He studied at Louisiana State University where he received his M.F. A. His work has been shown extensively both regionally and nationally. His most recent show was at the Gammill Gallery at the University of Mississippi. He has also shown his work his work at venues in Minnesota, Oklahoma and Louisiana, among others. His work was published in Shots Magazine and the Oxford American’s Eyes on the South.
He continues to teach photography, foundational art, and illustration at the University of Mississippi where he also manages both the analog and digital labs.
